Abstract

Osteomyelitis can happen if a bacterial or fungal infection enters the bone tissue from the bloodstream, due to injury or surgery. Chronic osteomyelitis is a debilitating dirty disease endemic in peasantry communities associated with major source of morbidity and mortality, increasing poverty. There is some evidence that the overall burden of surgical sepsis has increased with the increasing prevalence of HIV. Other factors are associated with chronic osteomyelitis such as sickle cell anaemia, upper respiratory tract infection, trauma, HIV/AIDA, poor hygiene, diabetes mellitus.
