Needed Competencies by STM Education Teachers in the Development of Entrepreneurial Skills in Science Education in Students in Nigeria
Abstract
The study investigated needed competencies by STM Education Teachers in the development of entrepreneurial skills in science education students in Nigeria. 123 STM teachers were randomly sampled from Onitsha North, South and Ogbaru L.G.A. 6,5and 4 schools were randomly sampled from Onitsha North, South and Ogbaru respectively and were used as subjects for the study. The subjects responded to a 36-item questionnaire in the needed competencies by the teachers for the development of entrepreneurial skills in students. Mean was used to answer the research questions. The findings of the study revealed that competencies and skills such as: Software Application, Production, Networking, Risk-taking ability, Machine Operation Skills among others were identified as needed for the development of entrepreneurial skills in students. Based on the findings, it was recommended that STME curriculum should be redesigned to include pedagogical content knowledge and entrepreneurship skill acquisition.
